HOW TO: ORGANIZE YOUR CLOSET

©fashion2wear

With the new season right ahead of us, one of my resolutions is to clean out my closet from time to time. So I can make room for new arrivals. But how to start?  I've put together a few of my best tips to kick off your closet-spring cleaning:

First, get everything out of the closet, it's the only way you won't miss items and will find lost ones.
Second, make 3 piles. It will alleviate the decisions of what to keep, toss and store. Everything you haven't worn within the last year, you should ditchTry everything on. If something is permanently stained or ripped, trash it. If something seems dirty or is smelly, put it to your laundry. And If you are unsure about something, ask for a second opinion. Take advantage of the situation and discard the sorted stack immediately after the cleanup. This reduces the temptation to let one or the other style wander back into the closet.

Everything you want to keep, organize back into your closet. Before putting your clothes back to your wardrobe, remember to wipe the shelves. Sort your clothes by composition, material, style, color and/ or season. Make your own system, it will help to put your outfit together next time. Classic basics such as blazers, cashmeres, sweaters, jeans and accessories are essentials shouldn't be missing in your wardrobe. T-shirts and knits should be kept always lying, otherwise the fabrics wear out. Coats, suits, dresses, jackets and trousers should be hung up. If you only have limited space, you can stack shirts and blouses so that the collar points sometimes forward, sometimes pointing backwards.

EDITOR LETTER: A NEW BEGINNING

January is the month for setting goals and starting new beginnings. While it’s hard to believe that the holidays have already come and gone, I am so excited that we are getting this extra push to rethink our habits and get on the spring track again. There’s no denying that January is still a time to bundle up, staying in to escape the cold, but it is also a time in which we think positive, get active and plan our stylish get-aways.

We’re a week into 2014 and chances are you already struggling with your new years resolutions. I recently looked back on my resolutions from last year, and I think I did a pretty good job with my 2013 goals. As you probably know, I got pretty active last year, starting to run my miles almost every day, got back on the tennis court regularly and started to play golf. Anyways, there is still time for improvement. I must admit I got pretty comfy with my activities with winter coming, running my comfort zone 5 times a week helped me to feel active but not to work against these extra pounds from all the delicious christmas cookies. So this year, I was having a harder time coming up with a new set of challenges, but not with my decisions what to enhance.

Don’t get me wrong, I jump right on the health and fitness track just like everyone else. But I like to think of this month as a way to set the tone for the rest of the year instead of just a phase. That said, you can now even look forward to posts about fitness here on fashion2wear.

I will also be covering some great DIY kits and I hope you look forward to all my trend and style tips that will get you right in the summer mood. There’s a lot in store for fashion2wear in 2014 and I really hope, while I try to take this extry time for my blog, you will join this ride. So get ready for a fabulous 2014.

My New Year’s resolutions for 2014:

1. Sports: Run more miles and improve my activities.

2. Blog: Make time for this blog

3. Holidays: Explore a country or city I've never been

4. Paris: Visit twice a year (once isn't enough for me)

5. Time: More outdoor-activities

6. Habits: Think positive

7. Health: Cut out soda and my sweet tooth

8. Style: Wear more color

9. Education: Beginn a new class

10. Projects: Just do it!

What are your resolutions for 2014?

THE PAST WEEKS: MUNICH EVENTS

The bags exhibition in Munich (last day today) showed about 300 bags from a small purse to the modern it-bags as to the Kelly bag or Chanel 2.55. So the repertoire of the Bayerisches Nationalmuseum took in hunting bags, coin pouches and wallets, travel bags as modern bags from the 16th to the 21st century. A beautiful exhibiton - not only for bag lovers.

The teens and twens of Munich have a new fashion store: This month FOREVER 21 opened its doors. With 4 floors and about 6.600 qm, the American brand offers a big selection for boys and girls from basics, trends and accessories. I got invited to the preopening and totally fell in love with the offered caked pops, the photo booth and wall art. Of course some items went straight to my shopping bag while browsing through the store. Even I'm probably not the target audience anymore, I think it is good for Munich to get some more fashion spots. While I look  a lot more for quality and elegance in my daily wardrobe, FOREVER 21 offers some great trendy pieces for in between - especially for a small budget.

Stylight overwhelmed with another big event. The company provided their headquarter in Munich for a Blogger Bazaar - sort of a blogger's flea market. Some of Munich's bloggers sold their clothes, causing a big queue in front of the doors. The best: Mini-Burger & Co. from TimBallo food lounge.

What have you been up to the past few weeks?
